Saxophone, Flute and Piano Lessons
In his final year of studying a double degree in a Bachelor Arts and Music, majoring in Jazz Saxophone at Monash University, Coby has gained a wealth of knowledge in both the theoretical and performance aspects of music and is intent on constantly stretching his musical abilities.
For the past few years Coby has taught saxophone, flute and piano privately, focussing on equipping students with essential musical skills to explore new facets of music in their practice. He prioritises students’ personal musical goals, promoting joy and creativity in individualised practice rather than using rigid methodologies. Coby is skilled in guiding students through improvisation, mastering diverse harmonic and melodic styles and encouraging their unique musical expression. With extensive experience as a band leader and collaborator with singer-songwriters and folk acts locally, Coby possesses a deep understanding of diverse musical genres such as jazz, rock, funk, soul, folk, hip-hop, and electronic music. Currently, his projects include composing for a new large ensemble specialising in dance music, recording a jazz trio album, hosting regular jam nights at Ringo Barr in Brunswick and exploring DJing. In his teaching, Coby fosters a friendly and positive environment, aiming to share the joy and excitement of music with his students.
